From Chaos to Clarity: The Kyle Plumbing Story

About Kyle Plumbing

Kyle Plumbing started with a simple mission: to deliver top-quality plumbing services with integrity and care.

After many years, they’ve grown into a trusted name, known for expert craftsmanship and dependable service.

The Challenge

When Kevin Couper bought Kyle Plumbing in South Florida, he stepped into a successful business, one full of untapped potential. But once he started taking it all in, he could quickly tell it was in dire need of a modern touch.

The lack of visibility into what was on each truck or what supplies were running low made it hard to plan ahead. Inventory was reactionary, and Kevin found himself and his team constantly playing catch-up.

“When I dug into sitting in the warehouse manager’s shoes, it was just not working well, you know? It was just slow. No process, emails, waiting times, phone calls, leaving messages. (…) There was just so much wasted time, it was very obvious, and mistakes. Literally anything and everything that could go wrong was going wrong. It was still working, but once I actually stepped in their shoes for a couple weeks, I noticed it all needed and immediate facelift.” – Kevin Couper, Owner at Kyle Plumbing

The Solution

With a fresh perspective and a desire to modernize, Kevin soon understood that one of the biggest priorities was fixing the business’ chaotic inventory system, as well as reducing the amount of supplier relationships.

By bringing on Ply, he gave his team a modern inventory system that could be customized to meet the business’ expectations and cleaned up their chaotic warehouse in the process. Every item now has a barcode, materials are linked to jobs in ServiceTitan, and replenishment runs like clockwork.

“Before, it was just random. Now it’s like, this tech needs this, this is what moves, let’s stock that and nothing else. Ply helped us audit everything. Now it’s way more organized, we have rules in place.” – Kevin Couper, Owner ar Kyle Plumbing

Just as importantly, Ply helped reduce the company’s supplier relationships from over a dozen vendors down to just a few. That shift simplified purchasing, cut down on duplicate orders, and improved pricing consistency.

“There was too many vendors and it was just too hard to manage. So we’re narrowing it down. It’s way easier now, the relationships are better, the process is smoother. Before it was like everyone was just ordering from wherever.” – Kevin Couper, Owner ar Kyle Plumbing

The Results

With Ply in place, the team at Kyle Plumbing has gone from reactive guesswork to proactive precision. Here’s what’s changed:

  • Replenishment Costs: With better visibility, Kyle Plumbing was able to stop service stock from being pulled for construction jobs without tracking. As a result, monthly material replenishment costs dropped from $85,000 to $25,000.
  • SKU Cleanup: Hundreds of unnecessary or duplicate parts were eliminated from their system, reducing SKUs from 1,300+ to a leaner, more manageable catalog.
  • Lost Inventory: While counting and inputting materials into Ply, Kevin and his team uncovered $60,000 worth of unused stock. After tracking down the original POs, they were able to return everything and recover the value. Kevin also implemented a new PO process to make sure nothing slips through the cracks again.
  • Tool Tracking: With every tool assigned and accounted for, they can now recover equipment when a tech leaves and avoid costly replacements.
  • Full Transparency: Every team member, from the warehouse to the field, now knows what’s in stock, what’s on each truck, and what’s needed next.

“Now we have full transparency. We know what every tech has, what’s moving, and what needs to be replenished. It’s organized, it’s efficient, and it actually works.” – Kevin Couper, Owner at Kyle Plumbing
